American actor and rapper Earl Simmons, born December 18, 1970, and passed away on April 9 2021. The rapper began rapping in beginning of the 1990s. He released his debut album , It's Dark and Hell is Hot in 1998 to both critical acclaim as well as commercial success. He sold over 251,000 copies in the first week of release. [5][65][6] DMX released his most-seller album, ... And Then There was X, in 1999, and included the smash single "Party Up (Up in Here)". His 2003 singles "Where the Hood At?" and "X I'm Going to Give It To Ya" were also commercially successful. The artist was the first to ever have an album debut that reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 charts five times consecutively. Seven times in all, DMX sold over 74 million records worldwide. 8 DMX was in movies like Belly, Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Last Hour. In 2006, he was a star in the reality television series DMX: Soul of a Man which was shown by the BET cable television network Never Die Alone. In 2003, he wrote the memoirs of his life entitled E.A.R.L. The Autobiography of DMX. [9] DMX began his career in the music industry at age 14, in 1984, when he beatboxed with Ready Ron. After getting a sentence for the stealing of an animal, he began to write lyrics of his own. He also performed at a community recreation center that was for kids younger than 14 years old. While being in prison for carjacking the rapper began to devote a lot of his time creating lyrics. He also had a meeting and performed with K-Solo. He was released in summer of 1988, and then began to make and sell his own mixtapes. In these mixtapes, he performed raps over songs by other artists and sold them on street corners. This helped him establish a fanbase in New York. Percee P and DMX were featured on The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show 1991, where they performed freestyles. [15] DMX would later that year release a demo tape that featured "Spellbound" alongside "Critical Condition", "Three Little Pigs", "The Original Author of Spellbound" and "Unstoppable Force". It was quite similar to Big Daddy Kane or Rakim but it wasn't his later material. 3] In 1991, The Source magazine praised DMX as a member of its Unsigned Hype column, that showcased hip-hop artists that were not signed. (16) Columbia Records signed DMX in 1991 to its subsidiary label Ruffhouse Records. This single was his first singles, "Born Loser". In 1994, he released "Make A Move", his second single.
