Walter was employed by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. The family moved in 1960 and relocated to Decatur Georgia. The year 1964 was when Walter along with Betty Lou began production on a local children's Saturday morning television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was established in 1964 and lasted for six years. During this time they also had two kids Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
